Why does my pillar candle only burn down the middle?

There are two main reasons for that occurring. Firstly, a poor quality wax will not burn as effectively as a good quality. Most commonly, the candle was not burned for sufficient time when it was first lit. Candles have a memory so, when you first burn your pillar candle, allow the wax pool to melt out to within 1 cm of the outside edge. This will take 3 – 4 hours for a standard 7.5cm diameter candle.

How do I stop candles from smoking?

Candle wicks should be trimmed to about 5mm every time before lighting. This will prevent smoking and flickering of your candle. Also, never burn candles in a draft.

Why do candles drip?

This is mainly due to the quality of the candle. Good quality candles will not drip if burned correctly. At Inspire, we test all our candles and only provide the best quality candles that will not drip in normal conditions. However, conditions such as drafts may cause even the best quality candle to drip.

How do I remove wax from a votive holder?

Votive candles are designed to liquefy while burning and must be used in an appropriate sized container. Place a small amount of water in the container before inserting the votive. This will allow easy removal of the wax at the end of burning.

What if I forget to put water in the votive holder?

Place the votive holder in the freezer for half an hour. The wax should then be easy to remove.

How do I get the most life from a jar candle?

Burn at least 6 hours at a time or until wax melts out to the container.

How should I extinguish a candle?

Use a candle snuffer or a wick dipper.

How do I remove spilt wax from carpets?

Place a paper towel over the wax and then place a warm iron over the paper towel to absorb the wax. Replace the paper towel as required.
